Rockaway Repair Shop Opening Soon

Updated: Jul 5, 2022

Every day, a huge amount of 'stuff' is thrown away, often with only one thing wrong. The Rockaway Repair Shop aims to give items a new lease of life by offering free simple repairs!

Knowing how to fix things is a skill that we want to help flourish by ensuring invaluable practical know-how is shared and passed on. If things are used for longer, we can help reduce the volume of raw materials and energy needed to make new products, cutting CO2 emissions. Best of all, the Repair Shop can show how much fun it is repairing things, as well as how easy it can be. Here's some of the items that we hope to repair:

  • Clothing

  • Wooden Furniture

  • Electrical Appliances

  • Laptops and tablets

  • Mobile phones

  • Bicycles

The plan is for people to bring their broken items from home and together with guidance and support from our group of specialist volunteers, they can start making their own repairs.

The Repair Shop will be open 10am - 12.30pm one Saturday each month, with the Vegan Cafe selling delicious cakes, snacks and drinks. The Repair Shop is free, but we ask for any donation you can make to help cover the basic expenses of our volunteers.

Our next step is to appeal to anyone who has a skill they would be happy to share by volunteering.

You could be a carpenter, electrician, seamstress, or bike repairer - perhaps retired, or interested in meeting new people and sharing your skills? If so, we'd love to hear from you by completing a simple form, which you can download by clicking on the image below:

Many thanks for reaching out to us, we always appreciate it!
