Catalyst Club

Founded in 2004, The Catalyst Club is a monthly event inspired by French salons, old debating societies and the wonderfully odd traditions of gentlemen’s clubs. Over the years it has hosted more than 700 talks on everything from zombie films and Marmite to suffragettes, Spartans, bum-reading and slime mould. The only rule: three speakers, each delivering a 15-minute talk on something they’re truly passionate about – the more unusual or niche, the better. After it's first visit to Rockaway in December 2025, Catalyst Club is back monthly for 2026.

Speakers to be announced.

The evening will be hosted by Dr David Bramwell – not actually a doctor, but very much enjoying the title. EXHIBITION - IMPERFECT MULTIPLES

IMPERFECT MULTIPLES

New silkscreen paintings by Mat Consume

11–26 June 2026 | Rockaway Park, Temple Cloud, Bristol

Bristol-based artist Mat Consume presents Imperfect Multiples, a new body of silkscreen paintings examining the relationship between oil imperialism, the arms trade, and the military-industrial complex that underpins both.

The show takes its name from the nature of the silkscreen process itself — each print a near-identical iteration, slightly off, accumulating variance through repetition. The form mirrors its subject: the recurring logic of resource seizure, regime change, and weapons proliferation that has defined Western foreign policy for over a century.

At the centre of the work is the story of the Seven Sisters — the cartel of oil companies that carved up Middle Eastern resources in the mid-twentieth century — and the apparatus of coups, client states, and contracted violence that protected their interests. Works including Arabian Nightmare, In the Beginning Was the Oil, and I’d Like to Buy the World trace this lineage directly, mapping the collusion of corporate capital and state military power across decades and continents.

Other works in the exhibition turn to the cultural machinery that normalises perpetual war: the advertising language of military contractors, the gamified aesthetics of targeting systems, the bureaucratic distance that separates decision from consequence. Almost Midnight references the Doomsday Clock; Incoming (Shall We Play a Game?) borrows its title from the cold-war computer that couldn’t tell the difference between a game and the end of the world.

Consume works in the tradition of political printmaking — a medium historically associated with mass communication, accessibility, and dissent. The silkscreen, cheap to reproduce and impossible to make perfectly, is inherently resistant to the kind of pristine commodity fetishism that neutralises art as critique.

Imperfect Multiples opens with a complimentary drinks evening on 11 June 2026. The exhibition runs daily until 26 June. A free tabloid newspaper, produced in collaboration with contributors including CND and stanley donwood will be available throughout.

Welcome to Adventures In Hidden History!—a joyfully interactive show celebrating the lives, stories, and imaginations of Global Majority trailblazers across time. Blending oral history, live music, and imaginative storytelling, the show invites audiences of all ages to explore hidden histories and dream forward into the dazzling realms of Afrofuturism. A tribute to our past, celebration of our present, and an invitation to let hidden history inspire our future.

Nate has something bubbling up inside but they don't know what or why. When they come across a mysterious artefact, they find themselves pulled into a journey of discovery, encountering time traveling Cosmologists and their sound craft, Netumba, whose harmonic engine needs the right vibes to thrive (and the vibes are off in 2026). To restore balance and help Nate reach a utopic future, the trio must journey through time uncovering world histories and legendary figures. Finally they are left with a choice  between power over or power with. Harmony or discord.

Get an insight into the fascinating world of Electrics for Shows and Events with our old school technician Stefan Hintsches.

This course is for everybody who uses electricity as part of their work and wants to get a better understanding of it - no previous experience required.

It was originally designed for crew members of a travelling circus and is aiming to bridge the gap between the consumers and providers of electricity and to enable people from all different backgrounds to:

 - Understand basic electrical terminology.

- Make calculations for power consumption.

- Identify commonly used connectors and understand their qualities and limitations.

- Spot frequently occurring faults on them.

- Identify circuit breakers and understand their function.

- Understand the correct rigging and installation of cables and connectors.

- Use basic diagnostic tools.

- Work safely around electricity.

"The course is great for absolute beginners, to those with a level of site electric knowledge. I really enjoyed the structure of the course and the use of analogies to break down difficult subject material."

Catalyst Club

Sunday 29th March - 4pm running till 7pm..ish. Tickets available here.

Roast dinner optional at 3pm ahead of speakers at 4 and must be booked in advance here

Catalyst Club is a simple idea: passionate people sharing the things they love. Each speaker gets 15 minutes to dive into a topic that lights them up, inspired by the spirit of old French salons, debating societies and gentleman’s clubs. Niche, quirky, surprising… the subject doesn’t matter. The courage to share it does. You bring the passion, we give you the stage.

Speakers:

Dave Panit – Journeyman - Small Says, Sketches and Tall Tales (elaboration not fabrication).

Dave’s skills were honed in the horse drawn, fairground, circus, tattoo and festival scenes since the 70’s.

Dave’s prolific art can be seen in the UK, Ireland and wider world - including much of it at Rockaway.

Sue Gent – Artist - Swallows on the Moon (and other wonderful mistakes)

Sadly, swallows don’t really fly to the moon, hares don’t have horns, and moles don’t have eyes on the soles of their feet (as far as we know). Yet these theories were once put forward by the foremost thinkers of their day.

Sue celebrates fascinating natural-history errors and explores what they reveal about the interwoven paths of magic, folklore and science. Could revisiting them help us find a little more enchantment in our lives?

Gemunu De Silva – Undercover Investigator - Sonic Art Undercover: Sound from Animal Industries

For more than three decades, Gemunu has worked undercover investigating animal industries around the world. In this talk he explores how covert field recordings gathered during those investigations were transformed into a powerful sonic art project.

Gladys Chav Harvey is a south-west based artist whose work blends social engagement, storytelling, and community collaboration. Over the past decade she has been deeply involved in creative projects supporting displaced young people in Calais, where she developed participatory works that amplify refugee voices and challenge public narratives around migration. Her ongoing project, Paper People – Hung Out To Dry, brings together UK schoolchildren, refugee communities, and the wider public in a shared act of creative solidarity.

Working across drawing, installation, and collective making, Gladys explores themes of belonging, resilience, and the human impact of political borders. Her exhibition Before & After at Rockaway Park reflects this commitment to art as a catalyst for empathy, connection, and social change
